Assistant Converter / Converting Clerk

Responsibilities. Assists the converter in overseeing the various processes involved in the transition of greige goods to finished fabric (i.e., dyeing, printing, finishing processes). Keeps production and inventory records. Acts as liaison between mills and clients, expedites shipments and work flow, does follow-up work, has heavy phone contact, may do some costing.

Skills/Preparation Required. Textile technology, fashion buying and merchandis­ing, or apparel production management degree, excellent math skills.

Personal Qualities Required. Good at details and figures, well organized, good communication skills, ability to work under pressure, assertiveness.

Assistant Piece Goods Buyer

Responsibilities. Keeps records of piece goQds purchases and inventory, main­tains swatch file and sample cuts, follows up on orders and shipments. Also may involve making piece goods substitutions and purchasing trims and notions under direction of the supervisor.

Skills/Preparation Required. Textile technology, fashion buying and merchandis­ing, or apparel production management degree.

Personal Qualities Required. Well organized, good at details and follow-up, figure aptitude, assertiveness, neat handwriting.

Sales Trainee (Outside Sales)

Responsibilities. May work for textile firm, fiber or yarn producer, or apparel manufacturer. Trains for outside sales to retail stores, buying offices, manufacturers and textile firms. After training period, is assigned a territory (territory may be New York City or other area requiring reloca­tion). Must carry sample case.

Skills/Preparation Required. Fashion Institute of Technology degree preferred, some sales background (retail or wholesale) very desirable.

Personal Qualities Required. Must be assertive, well-groomed, poised, mature, articulate, self-confident, highly competitive, self-starting, energetic, and have good interpersonal skills.

Fabric Technician

esponsibilities. Performs various lab tests on fabrics, yarns, fibers, and garments to determine durability, color fastness, shrinkage, and so on.

Skills/Preparation Required. Textile technology degree required.
Personal Qualities Required. Good at details, well organized, able to follow instructions and work alone. Some writing ability required for reports of findings.

Knit Grapher

Responsibilities. Graphs instructions for knit fabric designs.
Skills / Preparation Required. Textile technology degree or other degree with sufficient courses in knit technology, knowledge of knit machine capabili­ties.

Personal Qualities Required. Analytical ability, must be able to translate design-er's ideas into precise instructions for factory production.

Quality Control Trainee

Responsibilities. Checks fiber, yarn, fabric, apparel to see that production specifications are met. Identifies problems and works with production staff to correct them. May write reports based on findings.

Skills / Preparation Required. Textile technology, apparel production manage­ment, or pattemmaking technology degree. Personal Qualities Required. Must have analytical skills, be good at details and follow-up.

Assistant Stylist

Responsibilities. Works with nonprint, knit, or woven fabric stylist or yarn stylist. Duties include fabric analysis, color research. May involve graph­ing for knits. Responsibilities might also include maintaining yarn and fabric swatch books, preparation of presentation boards.

Skills / Preparation Required. Textile technology degree required, excellent tech­nical knowledge of fabric structure. Personal Qualities Required. Must have good color sense, be well organized, good at details.
